The Green Lantern movie franchise officially launched in June 2011, based on the heroic exploits of a test pilot who is given a green ring which give him extraordinary powers. The lead role in this 2011 release is played by Ryan Reynolds, an actor who has the unique distinction of having starred in a film based on a Marvel Comic and a film based on a DC Comic.
